Overview
Version Story is in ChatGPT's plugin directory. Once it is installed, ChatGPT can compare two versions of a document and hand back a true redline, merge edits from several reviewers, and trace changes across a series of drafts.
You need a Version Story account. There is no server address to enter and no setting to change in ChatGPT.
Install the plugin
- In ChatGPT, open Plugins in the sidebar.
- Search for Version Story and open Version Story Redline Compare, or go straight to the plugin page.
- Click Install plugin. A Version Story tab opens.
- Sign in to Version Story if you are not already signed in, then click Authorize. The tab closes and you are back in ChatGPT.
The plugin page now shows your account under Connected accounts, and Install plugin has become Try in chat.
Run your first comparison
- Click Try in chat. A new chat opens with Version Story selected.
- Attach two versions of a document.
- Send: "Compare these documents and give me a redline."
ChatGPT replies with a link to download the PDF redline and a link to open the interactive redline in Version Story.
Which account your work is saved to
Everything ChatGPT creates through the plugin is saved to the Version Story account you authorized. If you have more than one account, check the name under Connected accounts before you start.
Change the account or remove the plugin
On the plugin page, open More actions. Manage lets you change the connected account, and Uninstall removes the plugin.
