Version Story ChatGPT

Redlining, Delegated

Tell ChatGPT you need a redline. We’ll handle the rest.

Perfect redline precision
directly within ChatGPT.

Redlines on Demand

Ask for it, get it

“Redline these two versions of the credit agreement” is the entire workflow. Attach the versions, ask, and ChatGPT hands them to Version Story. The finished redline comes back in the chat in seconds, as a PDF or a Word file with tracked changes.

AI convenience, deterministic precision

ChatGPT never generates the redline. It orchestrates Version Story’s rules-based comparison engine, written in Rust, so every redline, merge, and version history is exact, repeatable, and verifiable. Conversational on the surface, deterministic underneath.

Saved to your projects

Every comparison ChatGPT runs is saved to a project in your Version Story account, next to the versions you attached. Open the interactive redline later without going back to the chat.

Connect Version Story
to ChatGPT

Version Story is in ChatGPT’s plugin directory. Installing it is two steps: add the plugin, then authorize it to use your Version Story account. There is no connector link to paste and no network setting to change.

Step one

Install the plugin

In ChatGPT, open Plugins in the sidebar and search for Version Story. The listing is named Version Story Redline Compare. Click Install plugin.

Step two

Authorize your account

A Version Story tab opens. Sign in and click Authorize, and you are returned to ChatGPT. From then on, attach two versions of a document to a chat and ask for a redline. Every comparison is saved to the projects of the account you connected.

How to compare documents in ChatGPT

A redline before you could have opened the first document

Attach two versions, ask, and the redline is back in the chat. On fixed-fee matters, that time goes straight to margin.

Zero training, day-one adoption

Tools fail when lawyers won’t learn them. There is nothing to learn here: describe the comparison you need and it appears.

An AI answer your risk committee will accept

The conversation is AI; the redline is a deterministic, rules-based comparison. Adopt the workflow without adopting the hallucination risk.

Nothing lost in a chat thread

Every comparison is saved to your Version Story projects beside its versions, where the matter team expects to find it.

What ChatGPT Can
Ask For

Tools are the commands Version Story shares with ChatGPT. ChatGPT turns a plain-language request into the right call and hands the result back, no glue code from you. Think git for lawyers: diff, merge, and blame, which lawyers call redline, merge, and version history.

Redline

  • create_comparisonStage a redline of local or attached documents; returns how to send them.
  • create_comparison_from_linksStage a redline from https URLs; the server fetches the bytes.
  • get_redlinesBlock until redlines are ready; return their download links.
  • read_textRead a redline's changes as text, a slice at a time or by search.

Merge

  • create_mergeStage a merge of two or more revisions of one base document.
  • get_merged_documentBlock until the merged document is generated.

Combine

  • create_combineStage a combine of two or more documents that share no common base.
  • get_combined_documentBlock until the combined document is generated.

Version history

  • create_version_historyStage a version-history document across an ordered chain.
  • get_version_history_documentBlock until the version-history document is generated.

Session

  • list_projectsList your projects, newest first.
  • list_project_comparisonsList every comparison inside one project.
  • check_connectionReport the access-token lifetime and refresh status.
  • get_instructionsFetch the full connector workflow guide.
  • report_issueTell the Version Story team when a step fails.

The plugin connects ChatGPT to the same server every other assistant uses, so nothing has to be kept in sync as tools are added. The request and response shape of each one is in the MCP reference.
